How does checking baggage through customs work on an international flight

How does checking baggage through customs work on an international flight?
My daughter is flying from Korea to LAX and then on to Tampa, FL. Will she have to collect her bags in LA and then take them to her domestic flight or will they be transferred for her? Thanks for your help. Happy Holidays.

she will go through customs at LAX...then get her bags... She will then re check them on to the flight from LAX to Tampa. Yes, its a pain.

she will collect bags at LAX then after finishing with inspections there will be transfer area for baggage. the bags will be tagged to final destination. it is an easy process and many people around to help.

two options, as mentioned she will land in the USA at LAX and collect her baggage etc, and check in for her Tampa FL flights, transferring her baggage at the same time. Alternatively, her luggage will be checked through to Tampa, but she will still be landed in LAX, but will only need to proceed to the new gate for her onward flight to Tampa.

She'll have to get her bags then go thru immigration and customs, give the bags back to the airport to put on her flight.

US Customs requires passengers to clear customs at their first point of entry in the US. Your daughter will need to collect her baggage in LA to clear customs, she can then drop her baggage off at a baggage drop off desk for passengers with a connecting flight.
