Why is the flight from Manchester to tampa an hour longer then the other way?
I just did this flight this week. The flight up was just over 2 hours the flight back to florida was over 3 hours. a bunch of us that were on these flights were curious about this. These were also non-stop flights.

it's the jet stream, its like driving with the wind pushing you on the way there and with the wind blowing against you on the way back

Most likely the air route taken. The air traffic is like road maps that planes travel. These routes are designed for safety and ease of controlling traffic. Commercial air liners do not necessarily take the quickest and shortest routes. Nor do they always fly the same route back. It could be that the return flight is a flight path of longer distance. Also, if a flight is east and west, the prevailing air current is eastward thus making flights going east quicker since you have the wind at your back. The flights west are usually longer cause the plane is flying into the prevailing air current.
