What can you do in NY in 4 hours, starting from JFK Airport

What can you do in NY in 4 hours, starting from JFK Airport?
I'll be traveling from Barcelona to Tampa and I need to change planes in NY, I've got only 4hrs and 15mins between flights. Any places you can visit in NYC in less than 4hrs, without losing my next flight to Tampa?

Too risky. Bring a book instead and wait in the terminal. There is plenty to do there anyway - its like a shopping mall with stores, restaurants, etc. If you leave JFK you could find yourself in serious traffic on the way back and miss your flight.

Not nearly enough time to do anything. Just sit there and wait is all you can do. It does not make sense to leave the terminal go out and attempt to do anything. Even the slightest delay anywhere along the line would cause you to miss your connection. No way would I risk this for just a four hour layover.

Tour the wax museum. http://www.madametussauds.com/NewYork/ The Museum takes 2 hours to see and is about an hour from the airport. 1 hour to Museum 2 hours to Tour 1 hour back to Airport To be safe, spend only an hour in the museum just in case traffic or the rails is a mess the day you are here and don't forget, you will need time to check in for your Tampa flight. Your best bet is to stay at JFK. Getting to and from Manhattan will take you about an hour in the inevitable traffic of Van Wyck Expressway and once you get in Manhattan, you'll have to deal with the traffic there, which doesn't leave much time for sightseeing.

Not much. Might as well stay at the airport. Good luck

First, your plane's arrival time does not include Customs, so you'd have to go through that. and between the trip to and from the airport (one hour each way on the subway, God only knows how long in traffic) and then having to go through security again, it's be almost impossible

It would be heard to leave the airport to do something and go back in time to catch the flight. It takes a while to get through security at JFK and you would have to go through it to get back into the airport. There's nothing really near the airport except for Rockaway Beach which is about 15 or 20 minutes away.. Most tourist spots are in Manhattan. By the time you get to Manhattan it would be time to go back to the airport.
